Our enrichment programs are integrated into our weekly classroom schedules. Our special program classes take place on a weekly basis.
It's a well-know fact that pretend play is an important way for children to learn, grow, and develop — and what better way to do so than in a creative preschool theatre class! Newstead preschool theatre classes help students build confidence, use their imagination, and learn to express themselves. With classes that focus on adding art into the typical educational fields (Discovery Science) to classes that lead to literacy (Story Book Theatre and Preschool Performance/Acting/Voice), students in our preschool theatre programs learn a lot while having even more fun.
Our Drama Class takes place in our 800sq.ft Drama Bee Stage area.
At Newstead Academy, our early literacy program for children aged 2 to 6 is designed to spark a love for reading and writing from the very beginning. We use the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, a developmentally appropriate and engaging approach that helps young children build strong pre-writing and writing skills through fun, hands-on activities. Our teachers guide children in letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and fine motor development using songs, stories, and multisensory tools. This nurturing, play-based foundation prepares children for confident communication and a successful transition into formal schooling.
At Newstead Academy, our yoga classes for children aged 2 to 6 offer a joyful and enriching way to support physical, emotional, and social development. Through playful movement, breathing exercises, and calming mindfulness activities, children build strength, balance, and flexibility while learning how to relax and focus. Our yoga teacher guide each session with age-appropriate techniques in a nurturing environment, helping young learners develop confidence, body awareness, and a lifelong foundation for well-being. Yoga at Newstead is not just about stretching, it’s about growing happy, healthy minds and bodies.
At Newstead Academy, our French enrichment classes introduce children aged 2 to 6 to the beauty of a second language through fun, interactive learning. Led by experienced instructors, our program uses songs, games, stories, and movement to help children naturally absorb French vocabulary and basic conversational skills. In a playful and supportive environment, children build listening and speaking confidence while expanding their cultural awareness. Our French classes lay the groundwork for lifelong language learning and open the door to a world of new experiences.
At Newstead Academy, our early mathematics program for children aged 2 to 6 lays a strong foundation for problem-solving, reasoning, and number sense. Through hands-on activities, interactive games, and real-life scenarios, children explore key math concepts such as counting, patterns, shapes, measurement, and basic addition and subtraction. Our play-based approach encourages curiosity and builds confidence, helping children develop critical thinking skills in a fun and engaging way. With gentle guidance from our educators, children begin to see math as a natural and exciting part of their everyday world.
For young learners, few things are more thrilling than a school bus ride and an exciting field trip. At Newstead, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom walls—our students have already enjoyed a variety of outdoor adventures!
We’ve cheered at the top of our lungs at a live hockey game, waved to orangutans at the Toronto Zoo, fed llamas and picked pumpkins on a farm, and marveled at the massive ocean tank and divers at the aquarium—so many joyful memories!
Through discovery, discussion, observation, and hands-on experiences, our students gain knowledge about animals, oceans, plants, and more. At the same time, they practice important real-world skills such as public manners, safety awareness, and following instructions.
